Before You Sign Up for Design Classes
Wednesday, January 25th, 2012Web design is one of the most popular majors in America right now and for good reason! The jobs are sprouting up everywhere and it’s flexible, too, so before you sign up for web design classes ask yourself the following:
Do you have the gear? – Web design requires some pretty hefty software (sometimes you can get student discounts) so find out before what you need. Would it be helpful to have clear internet or Adobe Illustrator? Photoshop? Ask your potential teachers.
Do you have the patience? – Design isn’t something you can learn overnight and it’s more technical than you’d imagine. If you’re not into staring at a computer screen all day this may not be the best education for you to pursue – consider traditional art or something more managerial.
Do you have the creativity? – It’s not all that hard to master the basics but everyone’s got the same toolsyou’re going to have to develop a style. Consider what types of design stand out to you and work from there – if you can’t imagine doing anything different you may as well move on now.
